Reels
For kingfish, you'll want a conventional reel that is comfortable and provides a light drag with a high gear ratio.
The Shimano Talica 20 BFC and Shimano Trinidad reels are a great choice. A fast gear ratio allows you to pick up line quickly when fighting a fish. Setting the reels to a two to three (2-3) pound drag prevents kingfish from breaking off. A good reel clicker is a great option too, as it allows you to hear the kingfish strike. Another advantage of a reel with a good clicker is that the captain will use its noise to chase the fish; closer or further to the boat based on clicker speed.
The combination of a powerful reel with a light drag makes for a killer kingfish setup.
